Proud to Sponsor the Blue Mountain Special Olympics Alpine Team

Engel & Völkers Collingwood Muskoka Real Estate Brokerage is honoured to be a new sponsor of the Blue Mountain Special Olympics Alpine Team. License Partner, Owner of Engel & Völkers Tammy Abbotts, a former ski instructor and volunteer during the World Games wanted to support an organization that not only encouraged sport but also involved and rewarded courage and determination. License Partner, Owner Max Hahne explained that when they first opened the office doors in June 2015 they were inundated with requests for sponsorship, donations etc., and while most were great causes he recognized how important it was for Tammy to choose the right organization to support. “For Tam it wasn’t about the money but it was about the meaning,” Hahne stated. “When we decided it was time to raise the bar and open our own luxury real estate brokerage, we carefully researched the companies out there and what they stood for and hands down Engel & Völkers core values really spoke to us.”

Engel & Völkers North America chose Special Olympics as the North American charity of choice due to its aligned brand values of passion and competence, the ability to work with Engel & Völkers on national and local levels, and its outstanding brand awareness and reputation. This sponsorship is the first step in the company’s ongoing commitment with its growing North American network of shops and advisors to help create more respectful communities.

“Engel &Völkers is proud to be a part of developing the first Unified Generation that will fight inactivity, intolerance and injustice for people with intellectual disabilities,” said CEO of Engel & Völkers North America, Anthony Hitt. “Throughout the duration of our three-year sponsorship of Special Olympics we will be focusing our efforts on the support of the new #PlayUnified Campaign, which strives to build inclusive communities through sports.”

Matthew Fields, from the Blue Mountain Special Olympics Alpine team recently returned home from the 2016 National winter Games in Corner Brook, Newfoundland with 3 Gold medals. Fields, a member of the Blue Mountain Special Olympics Alpine team for some 8 years was one of 275 athletes representing Team Ontario, achieved gold in Giant Slalom, Super Giant Slalom and Slalom.

While the Special Olympics motto “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt” is a deep and serious message, the weekly message to the team from Head Coach, Terry Sears is “Fun, fun, fun”. These two messages truly sum up the great environment in which these special athletes perform.

Currently, the Blue Mountain Special Olympics Alpine Team is the largest program in Canada. Since 1997 when the World Games were held in Collingwood, Blue Mountain Resorts has sponsored this team of more than 30 athletes with the help of over 40 volunteers.  The Blue Mountain Special Olympics Alpine Team is also supported by The Town of Collingwood and Skiis and Bikes.
